- Dr. Antonino Báez, has been accepted to join the Vidal Laboratory for his Sabbatical. Dr. Baez is a Professor at the Institute of Sciences of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla BUAP. He is a member of the prestigious National System of Investigators in Mexico (Level 2). Antonino obtained a PhD at UNAM Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and completed two postdoctoral trainings at UCLA (2011) and the The National Institutes of Health (NIH) (2015).
- Our PhD Anna Scasny succesfully defended her Doctoral thesis on Monday 04/08/2024 at University of Mississippi Medical Center UMMC School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences.

- We welcome Dr. Kenichi Takeshita (MD, PhD) and his family, to the Vidal lab. Kenichi will perform postdoctoral research on pneumococcal pneumonia (and will have a great time with us) the next two years. He is a a board-certified pediatrician and a board-certified specialist in Infectious Diseases in the Deparment of Pediatrics at Chiba University Hospital in Japan.

- Secured a research grant for pneumococcal pneumonia from the MSD Pneumococcus Investigator Studies Program (MISP). A Murdoch Children’s Research Institute led project has received funding for research into a serious bacterial infection in children that could lead to better use of vaccines and improved health. The project, to be run in collaboration with Yale School of Public Health and the Vidal Laboratory at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

- Ms Lorena Ostria (MSc) received a scholarship from the Mexican National Science Council to visit our Research Unit this September. Ms Ostria is a PhD student at the National School of Biological Science in Mexico City.
